Afib Unplugged: Zapping the Heart Back to Rhythm
Gábor Széplaki
(Head of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Mater Private Network, Dublin. Hon. Clinical Professor RCSI.)
Atrial Fibrillation is the most common abnormal heart rhythm, which can lead to stroke and failure of the heart. Unhealthy lifestyles can contribute to the development of this arrythmia, and giving up these bad habits is essential to prevent its complications. With the rapid development of technology, pulsed field ablation (a minimally invasive treatment) is becoming the routine standard of care for patients. The VOLT balloon-catheter from Abbott was introduced to Ireland at Mater Private Hospital in 2025, and early results are very promising.

Andreea Phelan
(Research Fellow)
Did you know that our bodies have their own superheroes that protect us from illness? Come and learn about these superheroes called “immune cells” and about what they do in our bodies.
Decoding endometriosis: what your immune cells reveal
Niamh Kenny
