Fiona Kashmer (She/her)
(Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach; Galway United women's first team and girls academy, Atlantic Technological University )
Engaging in competitive sport may yield many positive outcomes for college students. However this may cause the athletes to experience increased stress and increase the likelihood of them suffering from emotional, psychological, and developmental dysfunction in contrast to non-athletes, and potentially expose the athlete to increased risk of substance abuse. The aims of my research were to investigate prevalence of alcohol, illegal recreational and performance-enhancing drug usage in Irish intervarsity collegiate athletes, and explore motivations for substance use.
