Join us on 14th May at Kennedy's Bar as we explore all the inner workings of the brain from how we perform movements to what lies beneath neurological disorders such as Parkinson's and epilepsy.
How the space around us controls our actions
Aoife Fitzpatrick (She/her)
(Assistant Professor, Dublin City University)
In my recent work as a sensorimotor and cognitive neuroscientist, I have explored whether the mere presence of an object near your body automatically motivates your brain to plan an action towards it.
Parkinson’s disease and LINGO-what’s the link?
Mark Hollywood (He/him)
(Professor, Smooth Muscle Research Centre, Dundalk Institute of Technology)
One obvious symptom of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is tremor yet the causes of it are poorly understood. We recently discovered that a protein called LINGO is increased in post-mortem brain samples from PD patients and my talk will illustrate how we think LINGO may cause tremor and illustrate how it may be targeted.
What is brain tumour related epilepsy and how can we treat it?
Kate Connor (She/her)
(Research Fellow, Trinity College Dublin)
Brain tumour related epilepsy (BTRE) is a devastating condition which significantly impacts patient’s lives and well-being. My research is focused on using mouse models to find new ways to treat brain tumour related seizures.
