Join us at The Bridge bar where our fantastic speakers will bridge the gap between our world and the quantum world. We will have some stimulating talks about quantum computing and X-rays. Schrodinger's cat is out of the box and the quantum age is upon us!

Radiation: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Professor Mark McEntee (Professor and Chair of Diagnostic Radiography, UCC)
Radiation is all around us, without it we wouldn't exist. Yet the word has become synonymous with danger, death and disaster. X-ray radiation, for example, is a scientific and medical discovery that has saved billions of lives. We've all had an X-ray at some point in our lives - at the dentist, in a hospital or clinic. Yet few people know what they are or where they come from! Professor Mark McEntee will help us see radiation in a new light, to expose its benefits as well as its risks.

Talkin' Bout a "Quantum" Revolution

Dr Emanuele Pelucchi (Principal Investigator, Tyndall National Institute)
Quantum Physics has been at the centre of most technological advances for over a century. Right now, we're in the midst of a “second quantum revolution” that has the potential to turbo-charge our computing power. Quantum computers promise to solve problems that are impossible for “classical” computers. Dr Emanuele Pelucchi will explore the weird and wonderful aspects of quantum physics to see how they can help us achieve this ultimate problem-solving power.
