Translating medical data into engineering data for medical device testing

Fiona will chat about biosimulators and how they are created from translating medical data into engineering data to fabricate patient specific anatomical models which can be used for medical device testing and analysis.

Dr Niall Smith (Astrophysicist and Head of Research at Cork Institute of Technology)
Dr Niall Smith is Head of Research at CIT and Head of CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory. Niall’s research focuses on space topics including ultra high precision photometry and the uses of small satellites in low earth orbit for a wide range of functions from high resolution imaging to space cybersecurity to rural broadband

Dr Matteo Menolotto (Researcher, Tyndall National Institute)
The robotic revolution is rapidly accelerating, with thousands of robots having already been deployed in many industrial sectors worldwide. Will this be a huge opportunity only for big companies? Are job places at stake? Dr Matteo Menolotto is working on wearable technology and developing human-robot interface technology to foster the new frontier of collaborative robotics. He will guide you through the open questions and the latest research trends in the smart manufacturing field, with particular focus on the technology that is enabling safe interaction with humans and robots.

Melusine Pigeon

Dr Melusine Pigeon (Senior post-doctoral researcher, Tyndall National Institute)
Melusine holds an Msc Eng in electronics and a PhD in electromagnetics. Since 2008, she has designed wireless electronic devices for many different applications in research and industry. As a senior post-doctoral researcher in Tyndall, she is now designing Wireless Implantable Medical Devices (WIMD) for humans … and animals. She is part of the VistaMilk SFI centre, a nationwide Irish research centre aimed to develop the future of agriculture by using disruptive technologies.
