Making 100 The New 80

Alison Fagan (BSc RGN MSc Researcher)
Centenarians once considered rare in society have almost become commonplace, in fact, centenarians are the fastest growing population age group not just in Ireland but worldwide with this trend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. According to the United Nations there will be more than 25 million centenarians globally by 2100. The onus then is on society to support the older person to age successfully by providing the services and supports they need to do so.

Interactive & Immersive Multimedia Experiences: Beyond Entertainment

Conor Keighrey (Postgraduate Researcher)
Multimedia systems are evolving from the traditional presentation of audio and visual stimuli to the user for passive consumption, to now provide interactive and immersive experiences through augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Whilst interest in AR and VR initially focused on entertainment, research and industry are exploring the utility of AR and VR for training, clinical, and educational experiences.

In his talk, Conor will present the PhD research he is undertaking in Athlone IT which explores the utility of AR and VR as platforms for speech and language assessment.
